Smt. Aishwarya Srinivas is an Indian Classical Vocalist based in Chennai. Trained for over 12 years, she is proficient in Carnatic classical music and has had the privilege to learn music from some of the finest names in the industry .
Aishwarya’s affair with music began from a tender age of 3, when she would accompany her older brother to his music lessons in Chennai. One Page Spotlight had a brief conversation with Aishwarya who is now stranded in California as a result of the pandemic. She recalls growing up in the vicinity of music lovers, as a result of which she found her calling in the world of rhythms and melodies.
“My mother noticed that I had an affinity towards music without receiving a formal education in it. So she made sure that she sent me to a guru to learn the nuances of classical music. In a matter of 2-3 years, I was progressing and at the age of 11, I gave my first concert”, recalls Aishwarya.
She fondly remembers the reason she fell deeper in love with music and will eternally be grateful to one person who recognized her talent when she was as young as 11. The Late Padma Vibhusan D.K Pattammal invited Aishwarya and her family home one day to hear her sing and before she even knew it, the legend offered to teach the young girl music. D.K Pattammal was extremely impressed with Aishwarya’s understanding of classical music. She recalls the instance as a moment of sheer joy and surprise for her entire family.
D.K Pattammal along with her contemporaries M. S. Subbulakshmi and M. L. Vasanthakumari were popularly referred to as the female trinity of Carnatic Music and we can only imagine the pride and honour that Aishwarya feels to have received her formal training in music from such a legendary maestro.
She eventually received her training from R.K Srikantan and Padma Bhushan Sri. P S Narayanswamy and is currently being mentored by R.K Shriramkumar. Aishwarya was studying for her CA exam and religiously practiced and performed at prestigious Sabhas all over the country. She decided to pursue music full time after she completed writing the CA exam and she now has close to 800 concerts to her credit. She is also a rank holder in Chartered Accountancy.
Aishwarya Srinivas has received many accolades for her contribution to Indian classical music and her achievements have been recognized internationally as well. In the summer of 2020, her collaboration with Vidwan Mylai Karthikeyan ‘Radha Sametha Krishna’ garnered 270K views and was chosen among the top ten singles on BBC Sounds Radio Show, UK. She received the prestigious SVN Rao Award for Excellence by Smt. Sudha Murthy at Sree Ramaseva Mandali, Bangalore in 2018. She also performed a tribute to the Late M.S Subbulakshmi- a fundraiser for Karna Vidya Foundation, Coromandel in 2016. In 2013, she received a scholarship from the Government of India for excellence in Carnatic Music.
Aishwarya continues to remain in awe of the kind of musicians she had the honour to learn music from. She owes her journey to all the eminent musicians that were instrumental in paving the way for quality music in her life.
