Cast: Anna Ben Nayarambalam, Roshan Mathew
Director: Muhammad Musthafa
What is it about some movies that keep you wondering about the ability of a filmmaker to tell flawless stories?
Director Muhammad Musthafa never once falters nor does he let his actors do so. Every expression, every turn of the head, every tear falls in the right place in perfect amounts. The wonder is that it is so real life ‘real’.
The story of Kapela starts with a romance and ends as one creating a narrative of an issue so strong and powerful as though the spice of the meen (fish)never once touched the banana leaf it was wrapped in to be fried. It tastes perfect yet spicy to the gut.
The actors Roshan Mathew and Srinath Basi are master performers. Like chameleons they play with their emotions creating mystery in every scene. Anna Ben and her portrayal of naivety leaves you wanting to give her a tight hug across the screen and to tell her it’s ok, it can happen to anyone- like it mostly does. If this story was presented to an unbiased audience on the world stage, it would be Oscar worthy.
